Su Nuraxi Barumini

Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a nuragic archaeological site listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Built around the 15th century BC the complex is centered around a three story tower surrounded by a quadrilobate body with towers, courtyard and a thick wall that encloses the quadrilateral. Outside the walls there was a village of about 50 huts, circular buildings with large boulders covered with dry-walled cone-shaped roofs made of wood and branches. Among the huts found, the most significant were the ones reserved for meetings of the chief , which were the largest and the more articulated and the hut reserved for meetings of the inhabitants in which were found symbols of the divinities worshipped. Other areas have been recognized as workshops, kitchens and centers of agricultural processing. During the 6th century BC, the reggia suffered destruction but was subsequently re-established in Carthaginian era and afterwards it was occupied by the Romans, before being definitively abandoned.
